UK to Ireland removals: prepare your shipment

UK to Ireland removals combine road transport with a ferry crossing. An accurate inventory, collection and delivery details, and the required paperwork help us plan the journey with you.

Build your inventory before choosing what to ship, including any furniture that needs dismantling or extra protection. Add complete collection and delivery details, with floors and loading restrictions where known. Note anything you plan to send separately or keep in UK storage. These details help the team review the load and suitable transport options. Use the route guidance below to identify the documents and arrangements to discuss before availability and the final quote are confirmed.

What actually matters on this route

Customs declarationFor a move from Great Britain, prepare an inventory and confirm who submits the export and Irish import declarations.
Residence reliefCheck Irish Revenue’s transfer-of-residence conditions against your residence history and the goods you intend to import. Confirm exclusions and supporting evidence before dispatch.
Application and ferry documentsUse Revenue’s procedure to check the application, supporting documents and any freight-channel pre-boarding requirements for your crossing.
Ferry timingConfirm collection, ferry space, clearance and delivery access together before relying on a date.
Customs documentationExport declaration and itemised packing list - £145, added once regardless of destination or volume, never folded into the cost of the vehicle.

These notes help you prepare questions; they are not a complete customs checklist. Check the rules for your goods and circumstances with the relevant authority before shipping. Irish Revenue: transfer of residence

How the price is worked out

International moves are priced by volume, not by distance. What matters is how many cubic metres you fill and how the shipment travels - a container does not care whether it started in Abingdon or Aberdeen.

  • Survey first. We measure your load in cubic metres, on video or in person.
  • Shared or sole-use. Compare the calculated transport options for your inventory and confirm the quoted mode before booking.
  • Route: Holyhead or Pembroke.
  • Schedule: Confirm collection, consolidation where needed, customs clearance and final delivery separately.
  • Export packing. Every shipment gets export-grade wrap and a customs inventory, itemised as its own line - about 18% added to the shipping cost for packing that has to survive a container and a long transit, not just a van down the road. Full details of our packing service are on its own page.

We are not VAT-registered, so there is no VAT to add to your shipping cost. The figure shown is an indicative estimate; your final written quote confirms the price after we review the route, requirements and applicable charges.

Moving to the UK instead?

If you are bringing a household to the UK, you may be eligible for Transfer of Residence (ToR1) relief on qualifying personal belongings. Apply for HMRC approval before shipping. If you paid import duties but were eligible, HMRC may still approve a late claim and repayment. Check HMRC's conditions and late-claim process. Relief is not automatic; destination-country customs, duties and taxes on outbound moves are separate.

Moving to Ireland

The collection date, ferry crossing, customs arrangements and delivery access affect the schedule. Request a door-to-door plan before booking onward travel.

How much does it cost to move to Ireland from the UK?
